With this project wrapping up ...

... Mary invited EBCON upstairs to add crown molding to the family room and kitchen, and even to install an arch in an existing doorway. Eric suggests a 7", 3-piece stacked crown molding.
WHY 3-PIECE CROWN MOLDING? By using three pieces -- one strip on the ceiling, one on the wall, followed by the actual crown in between (at an angle) -- you not only increase the ease of installing the crown component, but you add aesthic appeal through the mass and scale, (albeit at a cost of three times the linear feet.)
As the drywalled ceiling bows up and down out of a straight horizontal plane, the first strip of molding will correct a certain percentage of that intolerance, followed by the crown molding itself and the juncture between it and that first strip of molding, etc.

Mary also added some arches upstairs. What a dramatic change!

Decorative trim adds warmth and character to your home.
Done right, the results make the home seem solid and well-built.
If you see gaps and seams, you create the opposite effect.
